Levee work and the flood map
The County’s SCR-3 levee, meant to protect more than 3,800 structures in north Oxnard, runs about two miles along the river’s south bank from the Bailard Landfill to the Union Pacific Railroad, with a floodwall at the golf club’s maintenance yard. Reaches 1 to 3 were raised by 2018. The final reach, on North Ventura Road, began in January 2025 and was expected to finish in 2026, after which the County will ask FEMA to revise the map.
FEMA released Oxnard maps in January 2010 that significantly changed River Ridge and RiverPark, then withdrew them a day later over technical errors. Check the current map for each home: in a high-risk zone, a federally backed mortgage requires flood insurance (FEMA, as of 2026).
